I went through a very irresponsible time when i was younger and have racked up about $13,000.00 worth of debut. I am currently a college student, so i don’t have the money to just pay it all off. I understand that i will not be able to find a job after i graduate with my current credit record, and I haven’t, and am not planning on taking out anymore loans or credit cards until all of my debut is paid off, but i don’t know how to get to that point. Debt consolidation? Bankruptcy?

able to get the court to release that but the bank charged her about a 900 dollars fee for checks that she had sent in that time. Is it legal for a bank to do that? she is with a debt consolidation company she has been telling this company that they should make arrangements with all 4 creditors but the consolidation company( made arrangement with 2 creditors) said that they will get her a better rate if they negotiate with the two other companies the result was the creditor got a lien. Is it not the duty of the consolidation company to make sure that no such lien is placed once she was paying them regularly. she was planning to save some more money every month put it in her bank account and hoping she saved some reasonable amount try to negotiate a settlement with one of her creditors directly but she has been told that if she puts more money in the bank the creditors will levy the bank account again she is at her wits end what should she do ?

I incurred a lot of irresponsible credit card debt while in college and am now over my head in payments, interest, and fees. Are there any options as far as getting a leg up on my debt and getting it paid off? Any legit consolidation programs? I have been contacted by a few from online and from telemarketers trying to sell me consolidation plans and they all seem to be fraudulant. What is a good way that I can get get out of debt as soon as possible? Thanks.

Im dealing with a couple of collection agencies because of deliquent accounts I have in my name. I wanted to deal with most of them on my own and have a debt consolidation company (a legitimate one) help me with those collection agencies which are being difficult.

The ones I have contacted myself are agreeing to a settlement plan.I have heard many stories from people saying to be careful because sometimes collection agencies will take your money but then not report it to the credit bureau and/or will come back later and say you never payed. One of the agencies is allowing me to send a check for the payment because I wanted to register the payment being sent with the post office to have proof that I paid the collection agency. The other one however, is saying that since I want a settlement I would have to do an electronic check over the phone because they don’t want me to send a check in for one part of it and not the other, if that makes sense.

I have moved to Hong Kong where I will be for at least 5 years. My company pays for my apartment and I will never need a car so credit isn’t important to me. I was planning on waiting for my end of the year bonus and paying them all off in one shot, but in the meantime I haven’t made the payments in two months and I don’t plan to make any payments until I pay them all off. My question is, can I wait until the end of the year until they start garnishing my wages because I don’t want that to happen? And is debt consolidation a good idea?

Should my fiance file for bankruptcy?

I have really good credit. My fiance made some really bad decisions in the past and has terrible credit. (credit cards, overdrawn bank account car loan …..) We are buying a home . We are planning on getting married next year. I am wondering would it be better for him to consolidate his bills and us try to pay them off or should he just file banktruptcy? We plan on doing something before we get married. We dont have any savings and I have a child and he has three from a previous marriage that he pays support for. My concern about debtconsolidation is that we wont be able to make the payments with everything else we are having to take care of. How bad is a debt consolidation or bankruptcy going to look when we do tie the knot if I have really good credit. Also what kind of affect does that have if any on employment?
I am already buying a home so that is not an issue
I am also being told that chapter 7 and chapter 13 affects your credit in the same way and tat both stay on there for ten years
He no longer has credit cards or bank accounts. All of these things on his credit have been on there since before I met him. I asked for financial advice not for someone to make negative comments about bad decisions made in the past. As for having a budget we already live togather and pay all the bills togather We already have a home that we are buying.
We both work. Who doesnt?

Debt cosolidation?

Is debt consolidation a scam? It’s hard for me to pay off alot of my credit card bills, Im a recent college grad not making alot of money and I had put alot of tuition on my cards. They have huge interest rates. So I called a debt consolidation agency, saying they would knock off interest rates and I would only have to pay 55% of what I owe. I set up a payment plan with them which sounds great. But then a few people said they could lie to me and it could be bad for my credit. Anyone have any experience with this?

Ive experienced a very rough spot financially. I have a collections agency hounding me pretty much daily. They have also contacted neighbors friends and family to try to find me and collect the debt. I do owe this debt and have every intention of paying it. I have been verbally bullied and threatened with a law suit.
Can collections agencies legally do this? I dont mind a weekly call, or letters. I dont mind setting up a payment plan. I even told them they could have my tax refund if I get one. Surely harrassment like this is illegal. How valid are these threats? Im frightened and angry, and most of all humiliated that my private money matters have been displayed for all to see. Im just a good person whos had a rough time and wants to get my life and credit straightened out. This is a nightmare. I dont think Id even qualify for debt consolidation. Before I got married, my credit was great, I even had platinum cards. Now I have this nightmare. I cant sleep or eat. Please help !

Would you hire a company to come into your home and help your or a faimliy member figure out your debts and exactly how to get out of debt. There would be an initial consulatation and a plan of action then a few follow ups to make sure they were actually following through with the plan. What would you pay a person to do this.

Assistance with car loans?

Well, 2 years ago I naively bought a friend a car who didn’t have one, he couldn’t pay it, so have 2 cars in my name. One person has been paying on it, but I am thinking about trying something, because my parents have offered their old car to me. If I were to sell both cars, I know I will have balances left on the car loans, but at least they will be less than they are now. Is it possible to either a) negotiate with the finance companies to get lower monthly payments or b) go into some sort of ‘debt consolidation’ plan with these “lesser” loans? I’d gotten the notion car loans were secured loans, and therefore organizations like Consumer Credit Counseling would not be able to help with them.

On another similar topic, is there any sort of financial assistance available to people in this sort of situation?
